Patrick Massey - Director.
Patrick Massey established Compecon in 2001. Patrick has advised clients in a large number of competiton law and merger cases and on various regulatory matters.
Prior to establishing Compecon he was a member of the Irish Competition Authority for ten years including four years as the Authority’s Director of Competition Enforcement. From 1991 to 2001 Patrick represented the Competition Authority on the OECD Committee on Competition Law and Policy and the EU Advisory Committee on Restrictive Practices and Dominant Positions.
Patrick is a grduate of Trinity College, Dublin and holds a BA and M.Litt. in economics. He is the author of New Zealand: Market Liberalisation in a Developed Economy and co-author of Competition Law and Policy in Ireland and Competition and Regulation in Ireland: The Law and Economics. He has written a substantial number of articles on competition policy which have been published in Irish and international journals.
Prior to joining the Competition Authority, Patrick worked as a senior economist with the New Zealand Treasury in Wellington. He previously worked as an economist for six years with DKM Economic Consultants in Dublin. He also spent two years teaching economics at NIHE Limerick. He has lectured on the economics of competition and regulation at NUI, Maynooth and at Trinity College Dublin.
Patrick is a member of the Irish Economics Association; the Statistical and Social Inquiry Society of Ireland; The Royal Economics Society; The American Economic Association; the European Association for Research in Industrial Economics; the Network of Industrial Economics and the Competition Law Scholars Forum.
He is Chairman of An Post GeoDirectory Limited and a director of Repak Limited and a member of the Institute of Directors in Ireland.
